Is it safe to sign in with Steam?
Yes โ as long as the site uses Steam's official OpenID flow and never asks you to type your Steam password into its own form. With OpenID your password is entered only on steamcommunity.com. The site never receives it.
What actually happens
- You are redirected to steamcommunity.com.
- You log in there, on Steam's own page, with Steam's own form.
- Steam sends the site one thing back: your SteamID, a public number.
- The site verifies that assertion directly with Steam's servers before trusting it.
What the site can see
- Your SteamID โ a public identifier.
- Whatever your privacy settings already make public: usually profile name and avatar.
- Your game list and playtime, but only if you set Game details to Public yourself.
What it cannot see
- Your password.
- Your payment methods or purchase history.
- Your email address โ Steam OpenID does not share it.
- Your private messages or anything your privacy settings keep closed.
Red flags: close the tab
- A password field on the site's own domain instead of a redirect to Steam.
- The address bar does not read steamcommunity.com when you type your password.
- A request for your Steam Guard code outside Steam's own page.
- A promise of free items, keys or skins in exchange for signing in.
Or do not sign in at all
Most of what this site does needs no account: paste a public Steam profile and the tools read the public game list, nothing else.
Try it without signing in โHow to make your profile public โFrequently asked questions
Can a site see my Steam password if I sign in with Steam?
No. With Steam OpenID the password is typed on Steam's own domain and is never transmitted to the site. The site only receives your public SteamID.
Can a third-party site see my email or payment details?
No. Steam OpenID shares neither. Email, payment methods and purchase history are not part of the handshake.
How do I revoke access later?
There is no standing permission to revoke: OpenID is a one-time identity assertion, not a token that keeps reading your account. Setting Game details back to private stops any site from reading your library.
